Nominated for 8 Academy Awards including Best Picture & Best Director.

The winner of the Golden Globe for Best Drama, writer/director Barry Jenkins’ bold and devastating drama is a thrilling, deeply necessary work that opens up a much-needed and rarely approached on-screen conversation about the nature of gay masculinity.

Based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney, the film follows a young black man’s struggle to find himself, uniquely told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality.

Despite the difficult subject matter, Jenkins injects the films with levity by focusing on the lush beauty around his characters, all of whom are superbly played by the excellent cast, including Trevante Rhodes, Andre Holland and Naomie Harris. A truly stunning achievement.
